Creative Start™ is a nonprofit that provides workshops, courses, talks, and mentorship in design and the arts to diverse girls and young women, especially those who are Black, Brown, or Indigenous.
Interested? Looking to help? Please fill out our form (for students or for educators/volunteers/sponsors); consider making a donation to help us purchase more supplies and cover operating costs; or contact us if you have supplies you’d like to donate (like laptops or art supplies) or if you have any questions.
From creative outlets to career preparation, we offer a variety of options for finding or nurturing creative passion and talent including workshops, courses, and mentorship programs.
The fields of design and the arts offer many rewarding career opportunities. We help girls and young women discover and develop interests and talents, giving them a solid foundation and guidance for whatever their goals may be.
To foster imagination, curiosity, self-confidence, and a desire to (continue to) learn and build skills that they will use in their lives and careers.
To encourage learning about various cultures and their creative contributions to the world — past and present — as well as embracing their own culture(s).
To provide mentorship, career guidance and opportunities, and other support to help them make good decisions and flourish.
Founded by Creative Director and Branding/Graphic Designer Sophie Taylor of design studio Castlefield®, Creative Start aims to inspire, teach, and guide the next generation of creative women of color. Our programs are led by creatives who have extensive experience in their fields and provide a fun and friendly learning environment.
